Darius Slay: I was looking forward to Justin Jefferson matchup

Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson has gotten the better of a lot of cornerbacks since he entered the league as a 2020 first-round pick, but that wasn’t the case on Monday night.

Jefferson was held to six catches for 48 yards on a night when Darius Slay often drew the assignment of covering him. Slay also picked off a pair of passes intended for Jefferson and the Eagles cruised to a 24-7 victory on their home field.

After the game, Slay was asked at his press conference if he had extra incentive to play well because Jefferson was on the other side of the field.

“I am not going to say it like that because I am always eager to go at all times,” Slay said. “I take no match-up lightly, but he is one of the best in the world. I am one of the best in the world, too. I was looking forward to the matchup.”

Slay will get another top wideout next weekend when the Eagles face Terry McLaurin and the Commanders in Washington. Monday night’s performance should provide plenty of confidence in his ability to keep the opposing offense in check.

Other teams will study what the Eagles did last night, I wouldn’t expect the Packer to let Jefferson run free in the rematch later in the season.

Jefferson spent a lot of time crying to the refs in what looked to be good tight coverage. Cousins looked lost as the Vikings only have one play, chuck it to Jefferson.

Slay was a monster. But there are 14 more games, gotta keep it up. Like what I’m seeing so far!

When Cousins couldn’t go to his first read on every pass play, the Vikings had nothing. It doesn’t bode well for the rest of the season. They were lucky they drew the Packers in the first game. It allowed them to prepare for their SuperBowl ever since the schedule was released.

What does it say about Cousins when he is alone in last place in the NFC North with 3 INT’s after 2 games?

Primetime Cousins is an easy bet. I think the Lions will bring it this week, so the Vikings better bounce back quickly.

Cousins had the second best TD-INT ratio last year behind Rodgers. 7int all last year. Had 3 last night. Slay shutdown and shut up Jefferson who talked about how this was a revenge game for the Eagles not drafting him, was happier in Minnesota. Happy now?

That Justin Jefferson dominates every game . . . oh wait.
